If you haven’t made reservations, here is the list of participating restaurants.  In case you need a refresher: DFW Restaurant Week (almost a month for some restaurants) offers special three-course prix fixe dinners for either $35 or $45, or the Cadillac Lunch Experience which features three-course lunches for just $25, at select locations. Twenty (20) percent from each meal purchased will be donated to one of the charity partners Lena Pope and the North Texas Food Bank. Some will participate until August 31.

Please share your various restaurant experiences. I also encourage you to tip your servers generously and if they go over and above their normal duties, which they are doing already, take down their names, snap a photo and send them to me.     At the start of Restaurant Week we decided to try Shinsei. It was pretty much based on random selection and although their restaurant week menu was not posted, I felt confident that I would love their dishes based on the items on their normal menu. We went on Friday night and the restaurant was packed. We waited for about 10 minutes despite our reservation. Once we were seated I believe we had to ask for the restaurant week menu. The waitress seemed less than thrilled to bring it. After reading the menu descriptions, I still had high hopes for the meal. We both chose the sashimi for our first course. I enjoyed it but could have opted for something with a little more substance. For the main course, I had the halibut and shrimp dumplings. The dish was extremely bland overall and the highlight of the night were the shrimp dumplings. They had a little kick of flavor to them…too bad they’re were only two. My date had the short rib noodle dish which was also bland. With only one course left, I was hoping Shinsei could redeem themselves with a delicious dessert but they failed. The cinnamon chocolate cake was definitely missing the cinnamon and possibly even sugar. To summarize the night, I would say their chefs can use a lesson in seasoning and their bartenders can learn how to make a simple old fashioned.
