We’re almost to the three-day weekend! Here are a few news tidbits to help you plan out the next few days.
1. Today, Phil’s Philly Grill has its grand opening at 5225 Belt Line Road Ste 254. It’s the first standalone location for the franchise of eight stores. They of course offer cheesesteaks with rib eye steak, sautéed onions, and provolone cheese, as well as Phil’s Chicken n’ Cheese Sandwich with house marinated chicken breast and provolone cheese.
2. Saturday, Alamo Drafthouse is having a groundbreaking event for its third DFW location in Las Colinas at Hwy 114 and Fuller Drive. The development breaks ground at 7 pm August 30 with a free family event. There will be a showing of Raiders of the Lost Ark in 35 mm, food trucks, temple-themed bounce houses, whip demonstrations, craft beer from Community Beer Company, and of course games.
Bring a chair for the movie, which will start at sunset. Dogs are welcome. The bar and food trucks require cash and there will be an ATM on site. 500 W Las Colinas Blvd, Irving, TX 75039 (adjacent to the south side of the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas in the field).
3. Chipotle Mexican Grill is hosting a screening of GMO OMG on Tuesday, September 2 at the Granada Theater. Admission is free and all attendees will receive a BOGO card (Buy-One/Get-One burritos, bowls, salads or tacos) from Chipotle as well.
The doors open at 7 pm, the film starts at 7:30 pm, and a panel discussion will follow the screening with moderator Susie Marshall, Executive Director of GROW North Texas. The panel will include: local experts including: Paul Magedson with Good Earth Organic Farm and Amanda Vanhoozier with Coppell Farmers Market. 4. On Wednesday, September 3, Addison, the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, and the Consulate General of Mexico present “Spirit of Earth and Light,” a tribute to the creation of mezcal, and the masters behind its creation.The photography exhibition is the collaborative effort of 15 photographers from Oaxaca who were inspired by the artisanal process of producing mezcal. Works on display portray the respect and passion of the mezcal masters of their land, tools and product. Guests are invited to the Gallery at Visit Addison for a preview, as well as tastings from Koch, Fandango and Gracias a Dios mezcals.
The “Spirit of Earth and Light” photography exhibition is open to the public through September 12. The event runs from 7 pm to 9 pm at 5100 Belt Line Road, Ste 400. It’s free and open to the public. RSVP to [email protected]
