It’s hard to believe this year’s TEXSOM conference will be the 10th gathering of international sommeliers. Founded in 2005, TEXSOM was started by Master Sommeliers James Tidwell and Drew Hendricks to help promote professional wine service standards, outline paths for further wine education, and certification, and raise public awareness about the professional standards and certifications for sommeliers. The little conference now draws 800 attendees, of which 600 are sommeliers and other beverage industry professionals.

TEXSOM, which takes placed August 9 -11, 2014 at the Four Seasons Resort & Club in Las Colinas, is the only conference in the world co-presented by the four major education/certification organizations for wine: Guild of Sommeliers, Court of Master Sommelier-Americas, Wine and Spirits Education Trust, and Society of Wine Educators. This year, they are adding the Specialty Tea Institute and offering tea certifications as the Sake Education Council did with sake last year. The conference seminars are selling out, but there are still tickets available for the Grand Tasting and Awards Reception which takes place on Monday, August 11th from 7-9pm.

If you love wine, you will not be disappointed. The walkaround wine tasting over 200 wines at 61 tables and snacks by Chef Christof Syre. You can mingle with 39 Master Sommeliers, 6 Masters of Wine, and numerous Certified Wine Educators and meet the winner of of Texas’ Best Sommelier Competition 2014.
