Did you get out to dine this week? Discover anything new and exciting or perchance have a dreadful dinner? We’d love to hear the good, bad, and the ugly. Last week you were dainty but diligent eaters: La Duni, Afrah, Underground in Las Colinas, Bird Cafe in Fort Worth, Village Baking Co., and Terilli’s.

    Ate at Los Torres Taqueria again. We got the birria de chivo which I had not had outside of a taco. As a soup it was simply outstanding. Also tried a cabeza de rez sope that was delicious. But the standout must order dish for me is tacos de tripas. They simmer the tripe first, then fry it to order so that it is crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. Be sure to ask for handmade tortillas on everything. The family that owns Los Torres couldn’t be any nicer too.

    Bonchon Chicken. Very crispy, juicy, flavorful. The shrimp dumpling app was very good but the sauce had that industrial bottled flavor. Kimchi Cole Slaw was flavorless. Not sure if I want to go back.

    The Burger at the Grape. Truly the best in Dallas.

    The Lot Burger at The Lot. Really good flavor and balance, nice pickled condiments on the side. Pairs wonderfully with a Velvet Hammer or two.

    Peticolas Open House. Casual and cool. A very fun time. A food truck is there if you need a beer sponge.

    Took four BBQ lovers to the Slow Bone for the first time. They were in awe. SB now has four new regulars.

    If you are not going to Velvet Taco on a regular basis something is wrong with you.

    Shout out to El Rancho grocery in Richardson. Home taco night shopping led to a delicious meal. Tortillas were still warm, marinated fajita steak was excellent, their pico de gallo freshly made, and you won’t find cheaper produce prices in town.

    Mi Cocina in Lakewood Village was where I spent a glorious Cinco de Mayo! Can’t beat a brisket taco with queso blanco from MiCo! This weekend, we have Chicken Scratch/The Foundry and Gemma on tap! Can’t wait to try Gemma, we’ve heard so many good things!!

    Meso Maya for Cinco de Mayo. Fabulous as always — food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. We also went to Neighborhood Services — great food but the bartender (we ate at the bar) was horrible — zero personality, no eye contact and he could have cared less if we liked our food or drinks. Usually sitting at the bar is a fun experience but this guy was a buzz kill.

      So, this is the no eye contact bartender that you are talking about. First off , let me apologize if I seemed to have no personality or did not practice better eye contact. Usually when people sit at the bar, they do so becAuse I make it a fun experience. I have actually never had anyone question my personality. So this is quite the shock. The only excuse that I have is that I was in the well that night making drinks for my servers and was pretty slammed. Maybe that is why I seemed disinterested. In any event, my apologies, and I challenge you to come in again and see if I still seem to be a buzz kill. Life is about second chances right?

    Ate at Afrah (seriously, could eat the shawarma slathered in tahini sauce and garlic sauce and the hummus with ground beef and pine nuts every day, even if my mouth tastes like garlic for days afterwards) during the week and Samwon Garden tonight. I can’t believe after living here on-off for 20 years that I knew of neither of these places until the last couple of months – makes me sad to think I’ve been missing out on some of the best Korean and Lebanese food I’ve had, period.

    For Mother’s day, grabbing brunch both Saturday and Sunday at AF+B and the Grape respectively. Am I a good son or what?

    Had Sushi Sake in Richardson on Thursday. Was it pricier than I expected? Yes. Was it really good? Yes Yes. Will I be back? Yes Yes Yes.

  • TLS at Suburbia Fest last weekend. I had some kind of fried rice thing with chicken and a fried egg and some kimchi fries. It was excellent and filling in the right way.

    Just looked at your Facebook page and you were definitely not our bartender. I don’t think I have seen you at NHS but we don’t go that much since we can never get a place at the bar. Anyway — I feel confident our bartender would have never taken time to write your response — which was very nice.
