A few tasty wine events are happening around Dallas in the next few days. Here are a few not to miss in the upcoming week.
Tonight at 6:30 p.m., Battuto Italian Kitchen, the rustic Tuscan-inspired restaurant in far North Dallas owned by husband-and-wife team, Gene and Julie Gates, marks its one-year anniversary with a special seven-course dinner (only $40 for just food/$75 with wine pairings). This includes the incredibly lemon risotto with seared scallops, hearty three-day braised short ribs on bacon-infused polenta, and buffalo and pork ragu over house-made pappardelle, paired with wines from an internationally inspired wine list. Full disclosure: I helped Gene and Julie create their wine list when they were opening, and I am thrilled that their cozy, welcoming spot continues to delight guests nightly. Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., Pappas Bros. Steakhouse hosts a Pinot-inspired tasting, spanning 10 years of wines from the Pinot family: Gris, Blanc and Noir. Think great Burgundy, interesting Alsatian, and lively Californian selections, paired with a selection of appetizers. $65 per person/reservations required. 214-366-2000. On Sunday, March 9th, Gemma Restaurant welcomes one of my favorite winemakers, Gary Brookman, for a family style wine dinner featuring his Brookman Cellars wines, as well as those of Miner Family Wines. Brookman has been winemaker with Dave Miner since 1997. The dinner is $90 each/reservations required. 214- 370-9426.
Next Monday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m., Sigel’s presents one of their fantastic, single varietal-inspired, walk-around wine tastings at the Park Cities Club, this time featuring that temperamental beauty: Pinot Noir. The event will feature 50 different Pinot Noir wines from California, Oregon, Burgundy, New Zealand, including a few from Miner, Cloudy Bay, Faiveley, Cakebread, Melville, Domaine Serene, Siduri, and many, many more. Winemakers Brian Loring (Loring), Joey Gummere (Transcendence), Gary Brookman (Miner) and Kale Anderson (Pahlmeyer) will be on hand pouring their wines at the event as well. $50 per person/reservations required: 214-350-1271
