So many things to do, so little time. There’s a treasure hunt dinner, an Oscar viewing party, and a couple of ways you can celebrate Texas Independence Day this weekend.
FRIDAY
Channel your inner treasure hunter at the Hotel St. Germain’s treasure hunt and wine dinner tonight, Feb. 28 and tomorrow, March 1, at 7 p.m. Based off the movie, Monuments Men, speakers will discuss the history behind the Nazis and the recovery of stolen masterpieces. Along with a four-course extravagant meal with wine pairings, you will be sent out around the hotel to find “missing” paintings. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 214-871-2516. $95 per person
SATURDAY (TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY)
Beer and barbecue may be a stereotypical Texas meal, but we aren’t ashamed of that. The Holy Grail Pub will be hosting a Texas Independence Day party on March 1 and 2 from noon to 9 p.m. You won’t leave hungry or thirsty for that matter with bacon-injected smoked brisket, beer can chicken, Cabrito street tacos, smoked pork chops, and on Sunday they will be serving smoked prime rib. Seven limited release Texas craft beers will also be served. Raise your glasses high for 178 years of Independence.
Texas Independence Day isn’t just another holiday to add to the check-list, but in Texas it’s time to go big or go home. The Ginger Man’s Annual Chili Cook-Off on March 1 at noon will have you dancing, sampling chili, and drinking good beer, and not to mention a raffle drawing and silent auction. There is a $60 entry fee for the chili cook-off, but all proceeds will go toward Habitat for Humanity. Eating chili for a good cause, sounds good to me.
SUNDAY
Barter is having a Tiki-inspired brunch this Sunday, March 2. With dishes such as soy ginger wings with pancakes and flaming shrimp, shrimp in spicy coconut sauce atop sticky rice and finished with rum, there will be no need to fly to Hawaii any time soon. Plus, Tiki cocktails are always a must when it comes to an island brunch.
If you are feeling like a true Hollywood star this weekend, look no further. On March 2 at 6 p.m., The Second Floor‘s Privé, its chic dining room, is having a Oscars viewing party with only the finest Möet. Tickets can be purchased at: www.thesecondfloorrestaurant.com. $86 per person
