Last night, I bumped into Bob Schieffer of CBS News at Nonna. Schieffer arrived around 7PM with Shelley Barsotti (mother of chef Julian and co-owner of The Food Company) and her husband Harry Hudson (Mr. Marfa to you). Schieffer will host “Face The Nation” live from the Sixth Floor Museum on Sunday morning at 9:30am.
Shieffer was a reporter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram when Kennedy was killed. His personal story of covering the assassination is riveting. The day of the shooting, he got a call from a woman who needed a ride to Dallas. The woman he drove here turned out to be Lee Harvey Oswald’s mother, Marguerite Oswald. Watch the show. You’ll learn how he faked being a detective to get the story. The large group of diners at his table included his younger brother Tom, who, you might remember, was co-owner (with George W. Bush) and president of the Texas Rangers for eight years.
