farmersMarket_02_charThis weekend brings lots of food and music to DFW. You’ll find plenty of things to do in September, and your local markets prove no differently. Here’s a fun fact: a glass of wine a day may stave off depression. Just something to think about.

McKinney Farmers Market

Congratulations to McKinney Farmers Market for being voted “#1 Farmers Market in Texas” in American Farmland Trust’s Love My Farmers Market Contest. To celebrate, they will be hosting a “Taste of the Farmers Market” event next week at the September 21 Farmers Market at Chestnut Square. The event will offer tastings of 10 recipes from the McKinney Farmers Market Cookbook, Local Flavors made with ingredients from the farmers at the market.

This week, they will have Bud Rager from Rockwall on Saturday for your listening pleasure.

Grand Prairie Farmers Market

The Make It and Take It Rain Barrel Class will provide instruction on how to collect and recycle rain water for gardening at 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. this Saturday. Stay for lunch with Becerra’s Tex-Mex Angus beef, pork, and chicken tamale and their salsa verde hot & mild, which won 1st place in the professional bottler’s (Judge’s Choice) division at the Austin Hot Sauce Festival.

Don’t miss Mother Shucker’s brisket, black bean, or cheesy chicken tamales and enchiladas.

La Esperanza, Baugh Farms and Sachese Farm will have sweet corn, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, peaches and pumpkins. Custom Cafe will be back with Chipolte Bacon, Jalapeno Spinach, and Texas Tortilla mixes.
