Get ready for this year’s blockbuster event: Chefs for Farmers Down and Dirty on the Boulevard. The popular celebration organized by FT33 Chef/Owner Matt McCallister and his wife, Iris, is dedicated to raising awareness for the locavore movement in the South. Last year was a smashing success, so I’d advise you to get your tickets muy pronto. Chef for Farmers will take place at Lee Park on November 3. You can expect to meet 40 chefs, local farmers, food purveyors, and local wine and spirit producers. “Chefs for Farmers forges a unique camaraderie between chefs and farmers,” Iris McCallister says. “It is through Chefs for Farmers, we build a future for our community that places an emphasis on its residents.”
Lee Park is the perfect setting to experience the food from talented chefs including Jeremiah Langhorne of McCrady’s (Charleston, SC), Janice Provost of Parigi (Dallas, TX), and Kent Rathbun of Abacus and Jasper’s (Dallas, TX), complemented by performances from local bands and DJs.
In addition, CFF will honor seven leaders within Dallas’ culinary community for their continued efforts to educate the future generations of chefs about the importance of sourcing the freshest produce and most ethically raised meats.The 2013 honorees include Chef/Consultant Sharon Hage formerly with York Street, Chef Graham Dodds of Central 214, Founders Brandon and Susan Pollard of the Texas Honeybee Guild, Publisher Nanci Taylor of Edible Dallas & Fort Worth, Owners Robert and Kaci Lyford of Patina Green Home & Market, Lucian LaBarba of FreshPoint, and the late Chef/Co-owner Randall Copeland of Ava and Boulevardier.
Tickets are available for $65 per ticket/$120 for two tickets, and can be purchased through www.chefsforfarmers.com. One hundred percent of proceeds from CFF will be divided to support The North Texas Food Bank, a social benefit organization located in Dallas that supports the nutritional needs of those less fortunate through education, advocacy, and strategic partnerships, and to the local farms participating in the 2013 festival.
