farmersMarket_02_char11I’m so sad to say this, but this will be my last farm to market report. I’m very thankful I have been able to write these each week for SideDish and many thanks to those who continued to read. Enough of that. It’s National Farmers Market week, so when you stop by your local market, be sure to thank the farmers and vendors for their hard work and goods.

Coppell Farmers Market: Lost High Rollers, the blues-mix local band, is coming back to Coppell to entertain all your market shoppers. Your shopping agenda could include the following: sweet and juicy melons, white peaches, and blueberries. Also, it’s prime season for vegetables so both summer and winter squashes varieties will be available. Other produce includes tomatoes, tomatillos, garlic, okra, herbs, and more. If you’re into the whole juicing thing – you will be go to go.

On to the more hearty stuff. Ranchers are bring pastured beef, pork, chicken, and free range eggs. Now this may seem like it’s ahead of the game, but if you like to plan far, far ahead then you’re in luck because Rehoboth Ranch will be taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys.

Celebration Farmers Market Leah is out this week, but you can check out the website for updates on vendors and available items. She should have it updated by today or tomorrow.

Frisco Farmers Market: Cantaloupe is the star at the Frisco market this weekend. Other vendors include Basic Foodism (award winning sauce), Sadie B (award winning jerk sauce and jerky), and PepperSmack (award winning hot and spicy seasonings). The artisan spotlight is Choco-Mint YUM Organic Chapstick. I am one of those people who hoards chapstick so this product sounds divine.  It’s not going to pollute the planet while keeping your lips moist. Here’s the map for Saturday’s lineup.

Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

White Rock Lake Farmers Market: In honor of National Farmer’s Market week, vendors will be doing cooking demonstrations and there will be a sampling tent with lots of bites to try from different vendors. Chef Milton will do a demo at 10:30 a.m. with shrimp from Magnolia Seafood and produce from Demasus Farm.

There will be all natural meats from Fruth Farms and JuHa Ranch. Paul Wackym of Wackym’s Kitchen has a little something sweet and spicy: hatch chile chocolate chip cookies. To cool down, you will find plenty of watermelons, cucumbers, and lots of other produce from Dallas’ favorite farms. And of course, returning vendors like Village Baking Company and Empire Baking Company will have freshly baked breads.

Peachy Page only has a few more weeks left with their peaches and fresh peach ice cream, too. However, there will be plenty of other produce from Sachse, La Esperanza, and Baugh Farms. Merlin’s Baking and Catering has salads made with fresh produce. Try the three tomato, parsley rice, beet, or Nopales salads. Your lunch can be completed with the hummus and cilantro dressing. For dessert, Pop Star Popsicles in watermelon, strawberry lemonade, hibiscus, honey lime, and more flavors.

Also, Mother Shucker’s Tamales are bring out new creations that include spicy queso beef, pork, fiery chipotle chicken, black bean and jalapeno, and cheese tamales. They have dinners, too, like chicken and dumplings, chicken spaghetti, and country fried steak.

Oak Lawn United Methodist Church (OLUMC) Farmers Market: To some, OLUMC Farmers Market has become known as “The High-Rise Farmers Market” with vendors ranging from fresh fruit and produce from the Baugh family to creative and local individuals sharing their products. This market will continue until October 27.

The church Missions Director, Byron Proutt, says the goal of this farmers market is to bring people out of their high rise apartments with the intentions of building a better sense of community. “This was our first year and attempt and we are very pleased with the results,” Proutt said. “It was a pleasure to see people out jogging or walking their dogs and come to a complete stop to see what was going on at our farmers market. This, to us, was icing on the cake.”
