Upcoming Opportunities To Taste

We are a city that loves a good wine dinner, and autumn brings a season of celebrating to the forefront, often with charitable dinners for a cause and walk around tasting events featured almost nightly throughout town.  Here are a few must-attend events – some with charities attached – to put on your calendar over the next few weeks.

October 19, Chef John Tesar will take a break from competing on Bravo’s 10th season of Top Chef  for the 4th annual Burgers & Burgundy event, creating specialty sliders alongside some of Dallas’ favorite chefs, with proceeds benefiting the Dallas chapter of DIFFA (Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS) at the home of Anne and Steve Stodghill.  Tickets are $75 a person/$150 for VIP, tickets available here.

Just a few days before this on October 17 in Fort Worth the 13th Annual 65 Roses Wine and Food Extravaganza benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will feature an evening of great food and wine for a wonderful cause, including Fort Worth favorites like MICHAEL Cuisine, Lanny’s Alta Cocina, Bonnel’s Fine Texas Cusine, Ellerbe Fine Foods and many more.  Details and tickets here.

October 20th the innagural Dallas Whiskey & Fine Spirits Festival, presented by Spec’s, takes place at Million Air in Addison with 150 spirit selections available to sample and bites from Abacus, Del Friscos, Chamberlains, The Second Floor and Whiskey Cake. October 23, La Maison Cointreau comes to Dallas with a night of cocktails designed to captivate and ignite the passion for the 160 year old orange liqueur.  Throughout the host location of the Aldredge House on Swiss (that is still getting a new roof post the June hail storm), guests will have a chance to try various specialty cocktails, make their own, and learn about the extensive history of this key ingredient in a classic margarita, among other drinks.  Cost is free, but you must RSVP here.

Last year I had a chance to attend the inaugural Flavor! Napa Valley as their guest. Though the first year was fantastic (with celebrity chefs like Tyler Florence, Scott Conant, Masaharu Morimoto and co-founder Michael Chiarello) this year looks to be just as amazing…even more so if you are a fan of Iron Chef Marc Forgione, who will hold a cooking demo with his two brothers and his father, Larry Forgione, considered to be one of the father’s of American cuisine; or Geoffrey Zakarian, judge on Chopped and fellow Iron Chef; or Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson or wine enthusiast Anthony Dias Blue; and Napa Valley favorites like Cindy Pawlcyn, Christopher Kostow and Tyler Rodde & Curtis Di Fede (the enlightened chef-owners behind Oenotri.)  Proceeds from the weekend benefit the Culinary Institute of American at Greystone in St. Helena.  Events start on November 14; details and tickets available here.

And though still several weeks away, don’t forget to add the 29th annual Beaujolais Festival to your calendar, this year taking place on November 30th at the Irving Convention Center.  Each year the French-American Chamber of Commerce ensures that this walk around tasting event is one of the best of the year, celebrating the release of the latest vintage Beaujolais Nouveau, along with other wines of France and the world, paired with bites from some of our favorite spots like Boulevardier, Parigi, Lavendou and many more.  Additional information and tickets here.
