Jason Kosmas in the Running For Next Cocktail Ambassador of Libations at Cannes 2013

Trevor Landry's (from Dish restaurant) Cocktail

If Jason Kosmas, Dallas bartender extraordinaire, wins this weekend’s Cointreau Ambassador of Libations contest in New York, he’ll be on a flight to France in May 2013 where he will serve cocktails at Cannes 2013.

Kosmas already passed Phase II of the competition back in late September, when D Magazine hosted a competition for seven mixologists at the NYLO Hotel South Side. Emily Perkins (The Porch), Omar Yeefoon (The Cedars Social), Jason Kosmas (Village Marquee Grill), Abraham Bedell (Oak), Trevor Landry (Dish), Brian McCullogh (The Standard Pour), and LeAnn Berry (Komali) were all mixing, pouring and shaking to become the Dallas regional winner. Unfortunately for six of them, Kosmas had the winning recipe for a drink he calls the “Syko-treau.” (Recipe is listed down below.)

Now he’s going to be competing against seven other regional winners from cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Boston, D.C., Chicago, and New York City on October 14. If this shaker-upper beats out his competition on Saturday, Kosmas will receive a pretty contract with Cointreau to serve cocktails at Cannes 2013.

The recipe for Syko-treau:

1 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. Remy Martain V
1 oz. fig puree
3⁄4 oz. honey
3⁄4 oz. lemon juice
1⁄2 oz. orange juice
Garnish with orange slice, chopped red chile flakes & diced orange zest.

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass. Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Dip orange slice in orange zest and chile flakes and float on top of cocktail.
