    Tuesday night about 8 we tried East Hampton Sandwich Co. I had heard the raves and was excited to go. No line, but about half full. I ordered the pear, argula and pancetta salad. It was quite tasty. (sadly for me, I had had a big late lunch so I salad was all I could do.) Manfriend had the Fried Chicken Sandwich. He does not like tomatoes (I know- weirdo-ha) so he asked? Does it have tomatoes? Cute hostess said, if it is not listed on there on the menu it does not include it. Ok. No big deal but when we got his sandwich. Big ole juciy tomaote on it. But a bigger problem? The sandwich was presented sliced in half on the plate with chips. When I looked at it, I said, “Is that raw?” And yes it was, about a half inch of raw inside the fried cutlet. They were nice to whisk it off– as the staff memeber looked a little irritated about it, and recook it. But how could the person making the sandwich not notice the raw inside as they were slicing it and pulling it about to put on the plate? It was quite noticible. Oh well- they brought him back another one, without tomatoes and he said the sandwich was just “ok” . I will give it another shot to try the Lobster Roll- but 1st visit just “ok”.

    Stopped by our neighborhood favorite, The Grape, on Friday night to enjoy the last week of the September menu. I went light, with a fig/goat cheese/prosciutto salad followed by a crab cake. Husband went for the braised short ribs. Black plum pastry with house made ice cream topped us off. Early dinner on Saturday at ACME F+B. Met the new executive chef, Norman Grimm, who told us about some of his menu changes. Although one local critic was skeptical about bringing in new talent this soon, we were impressed at how seamlessly he’s stepped into ACME, and made subtle, but effective, changes to some of the menu items. We split a dozen West Coast oysters, followed by the sauteed wild mushrooms over spaetzle. Appple/pear tarte tatin for dessert. Finally, tried out the new Preston Center restaurant–Ocho–for lunch. Enjoyed the Santa Fe inspired menu. Very attentive service, looking forward to coming back for dinner and checking out the gorgeous upstairs bar.

    We had another great meal at Mesa. My date and I shared a plate of mole’ sauced Enmoladas to start. For an entree, I had the (melt in your mouth) duck mole’. I am truly addicted to this dish! Just trying to pick out, just one of the 20 ingredients use to make their incredible mole’ sauce is impossible!
    My date, who is basically a non-fish eater unless the fish is salmon, had the gulf Snapper, “Huachingo ala Veracruzana”. She loved it and left her plate totally clean.
    And how can one find any fault with the Reyes family? It’s impossible!
    They’re the best hosts in Dallas!

    We had a birthday dinner at Bolsa last Saturday. Everyone was very happy – the short ribs with the roasted celery root was a big hit! Charcuterie plate and cheese flight were wiped clean by the tabke, and my quail was wonderful.
