    Salum Saturday night was, as always, excellent. Abraham Salum’s dining room gives off a great vibe, so nice and unpretentious, though very loud. His food is still exceptional – pancetta and rocitta ravioli with shrimp, tenderloin, salmon and mussels are all divine. It’s great for lunch too.

    Friday night we enjoyed the RW menu at Nonna. I started with a grilled romaine salad w/ pancetta and avocado, followed by the most exquisite lobster ravioli in a saffron broth. My husband had the buratta panzanella salad to start, then a lasagnette w/ goat cheese/squash blossom. I had the semifreddo dessert, he had sticky toffee pudding. We went with the recommended wine pairings and were very pleased. Saturday night we celebrated our anniversary at Zen Sushi. Sat at the sushi bar and inhaled a selection of recommended rolls and sashimi. Would be tough to pick a favorite–this is by far our favorite sushi destination in Dallas.

    Wow! Compared to the above eaters, our low life lunch last Wednesday at Po-Melvin’s in Irving pales by comparison.

    However, the shrimp gumbo (with file’ powder on the side) was excellent. As was also the fried shrimp and oyster po-boys. Now, get this…. After you are seated, they give you an “amuse-bouche” of a very small bowl of potted roast beef and gravy over creamy mashed potatoes. It was so good, it makes you want order that item for lunch.

    Yao Fuzi in Plano – loved the “soup dumplings” and the pork belly. Best Chinese food I’ve had since leaving SoCal.

    Fred’s Texas Cafe in FW – crazy fight to find parking, but loved the burger and ridiculous cheese fries.

    Tom Yum Thai in Garland – thanks to a Groupon. Very tasty food &I their Thai iced tea was perfect. Not sickly sweet like so many of them are.

    Also, Sunday Brunch at Snack on Henderson (thanks to a Living Social certificate). We actually really liked almost everything we tried. Their Blue Point Oysters were delicious and we fought over the last brussels sprouts. I wasn’t crazy about the roasted corn fundido as it set up a little too quickly and the meat was very stringy and dry. Hubby liked the chicken & waffles.
