Bits & Bites: Things to Do and Chew in Dallas This Weekend, Aug 3-5

|

What’s better than the fact that it’s Friday? A list telling you what to do over the weekend, that’s what. While y’all get to partake in some of these fun activities I have listed down below, I get to help my friend move out from her Southlake apartment in this hot, hot weather. Remind me to stop making friends.

Friday

The Deep Ellum Brewing Co. guys are launching the Dallas Blonde, their latest and greatest beer, tonight at the Katy Trail Ice House from 6  to 10 p.m. Only 300 glasses will be available, so first come, first serve.

First Friday at the Modern is apparently one of the best ways you can spend your Friday nights, according to Liz. There’s a 20-minute tour of the galleries followed by dinner at Cafe Modern, then an evening performance.

Saturday

Beefsteak tomatoes are becoming scarce, but your best bet is at the Fairview Farms Marketplace this weekend. Erin Ahlfinger has compiled her wonderful weekly farmers market report just for you.

I know this is a good two-hour drive away, but Arche Winery in Saint Jo, Texas is having a Harvest Party that sounds too good to miss out. Get there as early as you can to help pick grapes (i.e. the crack of dawn), and the winery will provide a delicious lunch with wine (21+ older) to all those who participate. Bring shoes, gloves, sunscreen, a lawn chair, and pruning shears (if you have them). Children 12 and up are welcome to join with their parents. Call (214) 536-6330 or (214) 908-9055  if you’d like to go.

TJ’s Fresh Seafood Market is hosting a fun sake sampling all weekend from Fri-Sunday. Try the Koshiki Junzukuri Northern Skies, Oka Cherry Bouquet, or Izumi Judan Tenth Degree.

Sunday

This week has been a crazy seven days of new restaurant openings. I suggest you haul yourself to a long luxurious lunch at Boulevardier, the new French bistro that opened in Bishop Arts District, or head to Monica’s Nueva Cocina, which just soft opened yesterday. Owner Monica Greene promises that it’ll be good.

If new restaurants aren’t your thing, House of Plates is hosting an Endless Summer Bash starting at noon. Bring your own meat to grill at this vintage swimwear fashion show and pool party. Alcohol and burgers up for purchase if you’re not into sharing grills.

Don’t forget to check out Liz’s Things to Do post today.
