Bits & Bites: Things To Do and Chew in Dallas, July 27-29

This weekend I’m going to a BYOB painting class, and hopefully I’ll discover that I’m some sort of art genius instead of a blob artist. What are you doing? Oh, you don’t know yet? Here are some ways you can fill up your time in case you don’t feel like painting a Tuscan landscape with me.

Friday

Want to make new friends without joining an online group? Go to the “Meet and Eat” Dinner Party tonight at Bolsa Mercado. The menu is light and summer-y, and just the way it should be since the outside temperatures are too high for comfort. Join the fine people of Bolsa Mercado for a five-course dinner with summer berry soup, roasted hen, and sweet corn ravioli starting at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $75 per person (tax/gratuity included) and guests must email [email protected] or call 214.942.0451 to reserve a spot using a credit card.

Saturday

Erin’s compiled her weekly farmers market report for all you morning risers. If you still want berries, you better lug yourself to the closest market, because berries are starting to run out this season.

Cedars Food Park – Tons of food trucks are actually excited about this shindig since it’s apparently located in an actual park. The Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park provides a beautiful backdrop to the Cedars Food Park Grand Opening party from 5 to 10 p.m. 20 of Dallas’ favorite food trucks will be there parked and ready, and this is probably guaranteed to not piss you off like the Midtown Food Fest fiasco that happened last weekend. (There’s no cover, for example.)

The Cultured Cup is hosting an iced tea contest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For only $5 per person, you can try all the top ice tea entries and vote for the winner.

Liz Johnstone really likes the Dallas Wine Trail, which apparently lets you tour Calais WineryFuqua WineryTimes Ten Cellars, and Inwood Estates and Vineyard at your own pace. There’s plenty of cheese and wine to make you happy for decades. (Update: It’s sold out. Sorry!)

Sunday

The 2nd Annual BeerBQ Fest is going down at the Flying Saucer in Addison from 1 to 6 p.m.. It features 12 rare tappings with two hours dedicated to Dogfish Head Brews. There’ll be live music from 2 to 5 p.m. and plenty of BBQ to go around.

For more things to do, take a look at Liz’s post.
