Fork to Farm Celebration at The Ranch at Las Colinas

By Nancy Nichols |

No, that is not a typo. Yes, it is fork to farm. What does it mean? On November 17, the folks at The Ranch at Las Colinas will host a showcase of local and regional products event. Think of it as a farmers market at a restaurant. And people walking around with a bunch of forks. The farmers will mingle with the customers who will hopefully fill recycled canvas bags with local honey, eggs, and herbs. Yow. Zah. The press release also mentions live animals! And cocktails! Oh my. Jump for the full lineup.

IRVING, Texas (Nov. 9, 2011) – Like partners in a marriage, The Ranch at Las Colinas looks at its anniversary as a day to celebrate with those closest to it. For the award-winning Texas-focused restaurant, that means inviting the farmers, ranchers, fishermen, bakers, and other food and drink suppliers to Irving for an engaging and showy party and some gourmet Texas cooking – “Fork to Farm” instead of the usual farm to fork!

On Nov. 17, more than 20 of the Ranch’s coveted local and regional vendors will showcase their products for patrons during the three-year-old restaurant’s free annual “Fork to Farm” event. From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the restaurant’s spacious Porch will resemble a classy farmer’s market as the suppliers show off wares – from herbs and honey to fresh eggs and live animals – and mingle with the public, who will be treated and feted with complimentary Ranch cocktails.

“Fork to Farm is a great, behind-the-scenes opportunity for our guests to meet the vendors behind our fresh gourmet Texas cuisine,” said Judd Fruia, Director of Operations and General Manager. “This is the Ranch’s way of both saying and giving thanks to our suppliers and our patrons: by bringing them together for a fun and informative show-and-tell meet-and-greet.”

Highlights will include live steer, lamb, chickens, and a sow from Holleman Farms of Greenville (it will also give away hours-old eggs!); fresh tortillas from La Mexicana Bakery of Farmers Branch; herbs and greens from Tassione Farms of Stephenville; breads from Empire Bakery of Dallas; live Palacios redfish from Fruge Seafood of Branch, La.; live crabs from Mr. Fish of Plano; bee honey from Roundrock Honey of Round Rock, and fresh cheese from Mozzarella Company in Dallas. C&L Foods (poultry), Freedman Meats, Premium Natural Beef, Garrison Brothers Distillery, Ashton Cigars, Treaty Oak Platinum Rum, Hardie’s Fruit & Vegetable Co., Dripping Springs Vodka, Franconia Brewing Company, and others will also be in attendance.

After the Porch party, the vendors will be treated to a private dinner courtesy of the Ranch that will incorporate many of their products – after all, that’s what the Ranch serves its guests every day!
