Somebody Help This Poor Girl

This time, it’s personal. I need your help. I’m going to San Francisco this weekend. (This is my first time. I’ve already learned that it’s not cool to say San Fran.) I’m planning on running the Nike Women’s Marathon on Sunday. But I’m going to need some fuel. Where do you all suggest I go for some carbo-loading Saturday night? I posed the question on Twitter, and SFToDo suggested Acquerello, Pasta Pomodoro, or Firenze by Night. But I’m picky and don’t want a chain, nor do I want to spend a lot of money. I really just need a great plate of pasta. Any suggestions?

  • I’m doing Nike Women’s as well. I will be doing the half marathon. I would love a really good seafood place.

  • Have Fun!

SPQR on Fillmore, here is the link to their menus:

  • Second vote for SPQR! Also A16 (

Also up and coming in SOMA

I really also like RN74 all though it is a “chain”
And of course it is San Francisco so Dim Sum

  • Definitely try Piazza Pelligrini. It was by far the best Italian food I’ve tried in San Francisco!

  • Chicken Fried Snake

Great pasta and offal at Incanto. Not too pricey either.

You need to go to Tommaso’s Authentic hole in the wall in the midst of strip clubs in North Beach. DELISH!

I live here (SF) and my recommendation for your parameters (great pasta & non-ridiculous prices) is Perbacco. Its also centrally located.

Get the Wok Seared Shanghai Garlic Noodles (with Kalua Pig is even better) at Butterfly on Pier 33…
    it will blow. your. mind.

Forget pasta – get a pizza. Amici’s pizza: pepperoni and fresh garlic. Yum!

And San Fran is OK. Frisco is not. 🙂

    Good luck!

North Beach Restaurant on Stockton is the real deal.

    Flour and Water.

    No brainer.

  • Thank you for the recommendations! I’m in San Francisco now (we don’t have hills like these in Dallas), and I’ll let you all know where I end up going. Good luck on Sunday, Lori!

Go to Radius, a friend of mine owns it and it’s amazing! Locally sourced California Cuisine.
    It’s in SOMA – 1123 Folsom Street

    I highly recommend Millennium!

We were in San Fran 2 weeks ago & SPQR (Roman Italian) was the highlight of our trip food wise….The Gnocchi & Tortelli were amazing & so was everything else…Small spot, good wine, & great vibe:)
Other recs would be Cotonga & Perbacco.
Might want to check out reviews on old school spots in Little Italy too via opentable, chowhound, yelp… Have fun:)
