Mad Tavern to Open in Dallas

Hello Dishers! Welcome to August. This is a love/hate time for restaurants: many close while others participate in restaurant week/month. Sounds like Trece closed yesterday, and I’ve heard rumblings about some other significant closures to come. But today comes word of an opening.

Mad Tavern, a gastropub “specializing in beer, whiskies and high-quality European dishes,” will open on Friday, Aug. 26 at 18101 Preston Road, Ste. 102 in Dallas.

Cue the press release quote:

“We’re very excited about introducing Mad Tavern to the public,” said Sanjeeva Balachandra, owner. “Mad Tavern is a unique place where people can come to

watch their favorite sports teams on the big screen, or shoot pool, play darts, dance or just hang out and enjoy good music, top-quality food and premium

drinks. Plus, we have one of the best selections of beer in the Metroplex, so it’s a great place for beer enthusiasts. We have 125 different kinds of ales and lagers

to choose from, 32 of which are on tap.”

Cue the money quote: “Menu items include European fare, such as steamed mussels and corned beef and cabbage, as well as hamburger, steak and other American favorites.

UPDATE: Mad Tavern will postpone its grand opening due to construction delays. Stay tuned for details.

Oh, you must jump for the rest.

Grand opening festivities will include special pricing on drinks and food, free pool and dart games, and free, live music from local band Live 80.

“Live 80 is an incredible band,” said Chance Harper, general manager. “It’s kind of an eclectic mix of sound – retro, 80s, classic rock, dance – all coming together

for one great performance.”

Live 80 will perform on stage next to the dance floor from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. No cover will be charged and anyone 21 and up is invited to attend.

About Mad Tavern:

Mad Tavern is a gastropub specializing in imported and domestic ales, lagers and whiskies, and high-quality European dishes. It offers one of the best

selections of beer in the Metroplex, serving up more than 120 choices with over 30 on tap. As a gastropub, Mad Tavern places more emphasis on the quality

and type of food being served than does a traditional pub. Menu items include European fare, such as steamed mussels and corned beef and cabbage, as well

as hamburger, steak and other American favorites.

With 13 mounted 50-inch plasma TVs and a 120-inch projection screen, Mad Tavern is your ideal destination for watching soccer, rugby and other sports. Pool

tables and dart lanes are open nightly; and live music, team trivia and karaoke are available on select nights.

Mad Tavern is decorated in rich, dark colors. Crimson walls are trimmed with Brazilian cherry and are paired with a black ceiling to give Mad Tavern

a comfortable, but classy feel. Local and European sports memorabilia are placed throughout, and in keeping with the spirit of the name, prints from Lewis

Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass”

adorn the walls.

“The ‘mad’ in Mad Tavern is in part, a nod to Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’ stories. It’s a place for introspection and for escaping one’s self – a comfortable place

you can go to just meet with friends and talk and have a good time. The name adds a bit of whimsy and gives us a chance to provide quality drinks, food and

entertainment without taking ourselves too seriously. We even have furniture on the ceiling – just another indication that ‘we’re all a little mad here,’” said

Balachandra.
