You may recall our fondness for traditional burlesque. In honor of our obsession, illustrious intern Molly Boland sat down with Queen of Burlesque  Dita Von Teese at The Mansion last night to learn about her life, style, and new namesake DitaRita Cointreau cocktail. Take it away Molly…

The DitaRita, a spicy but sweet new cocktail, has already found success in both New York City and Los Angeles. Last night, it arrived here in Dallas when Queen of Burlesque Dita Von Teese launched her second signature cocktail—the MargaDita—at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. The cocktail is a revamp of the traditional margarita created in 1948 by Margarita Sames. Cointreau brand Ambassador, Von Teese said she’s always been a fan of the margarita, makes them at home all the time, and wanted to recreate the cocktail as a tribute to it’s maker.

The MargaDita calls for 1 oz. of Cointreau, 1 oz. of silver tequila, 1 oz. of fresh lime juice, ½ oz. of Monin rose syrup, and just a pinch of chipotle seasoning. For a sophisticated Texas feel, the refreshing and pleasantly strong mixture is garnished with a yellow rose petal. During the launch reception, Von Teese participated in a MargaDita demonstration with the hotel’s bartender and gave private interviews in which she discussed her love for the art of creation, lights, costumes, choreography, and music. She shared memories of her shows in at the Crazy Horse in Paris, posed on the red carpet, and sipped MargaDitas like a champ.

The drink tastes of a soft summer juice blend with a zesty, kicky, savory flavor. It will no doubt emerge as a class act, just like its originator—a soft and well-spoken, timeless artist and delightful lady.

Ms. Von Teese will be performing her one-woman-show “Strip Strip Hooray!” (which we hope will include the champagne glass number) tonight at the House of Blues.
