Somebody Help These Poor Boys: Sports Illustrated in Downtown Dallas

This note comes from a group of Sports Illustrated writers staying at the Sheraton in downtown Dallas.

Nancy, can you suggest a place within walking distance of the Sheraton Downtown, for a get-together of about 12 people? Looking for something with a bit of a vibe but not too fancy or formal. Also, what would be your two can’t-miss restaurants for someone who’ll be in the area for three or four days?

Hit it, snow bunnies.

  • Carpe Diem

Tei An is open and within walking distance..sort of

  • air

Good luck actually getting in somewhere if you don’t already have a reservation!

  • eatouttomuch

Samar would fit the bill perfectly. As for can’t miss – Stephan Pyles and Charlie Palmer.

  • Kat

The obvious choice would be to send them to Tens Sports Grill, on Main.

  • Guess what I’m about to say…

  • Samar, for sure!

  • Porta Di Roma

It’s under the radar and the food is solid every time I’ve been there. Also, you can skip next door for beers at the PressBox grill… just don’t eat there.

  • pickles

Stephen Pyles and Charlie Palmer for sure.

  • The Grape!

  • Susan

I would take a cab to LOCAL on Elm Street. It’s only a few miles away and the food is delicious.

  • yeah…um

Iron Cactus would be great for your get together, not fancy or formal type of place. Might get crowded though. Downtown desperately needs more places like it.

Pearl is a great bar for a gathering if food isn’t necessary.

As far as can’t miss in downtown, I would say Charlie Palmer and probably Tei An.
