Last night I attended the utterly delightful opening of Young Frankenstein at The Winspear Opera House. We arrived early for a pre-theater cocktail and instead of going for the usually glass of Chardonnay we tried the specialty cocktail for the night, and featured throughout the performance of Young Frankenstein, the “Puttin on the Ritz” martini, named after one of the most hilarious numbers in the Mel Brooks musical.
One part raspberry liquor, one part vodka, one part sweet and sour and a hearty splash of Champagne. Shaken and served in a tall martini glass, one of the best deals both quality and quantity wise at the opera house.
I am a huge Mel Brooks fan, and this fun, frivolouos rendition captures everything that makes Brooks such a masterful creator. Add luscious libations to the mix and it is indeed one of the best nights in Dallas right now.
