Tom Spicer’s Sister Sues BP Over Oil Spill

I’ll bet my money on the bob-tailed nag that very few people have referred to nationally recognized chef Susan Spicer as Tom’s sister, but it’s true. It’s also a fact that Susan, chef of Bayona Restaurant in New Orleans, filed a suit in New Orleans federal court last Friday. Her goal is not money, she would like to get start a class action status that would allow restaurants and other seafood business whose have been hurt by the oil spill to join her effort. More details here.  Oh, we need more chefs like Susan Spicer. If you are a restaurant or seafood supplier, spread the word.

Good for her! I met her once and she was very level headed, kind and warm. Go get ’em!

Accidents happen unfortunately. Will she sue our gowenment? Why does everyone always want to sue everyone? It is sad for people down on the gulf. Why didn’t people sue The Army Corps of Engineers for the levee disaster when Katrina hit? I wish everyone in the Gulf all of the best.

Did John Tesar cause the BP oil spill?

Filing this disaster under ‘accidents happen’ is like describing a burglar-rapist as ‘pushy’. But, knowing the line of those filing suits against BP will rival the great wall of China, to Susan Spicer I say: “I don’t have to walk an inch in your shoes to ‘get’ what this means to us all. Go get ’em.”

    BRAVO, Spicer!

Jamie, I think that as a general rule, you can’t sue the government. The levees breaking was truly a governmental disaster; Spike Lee’s documentary “When the Levees Broke” and his commentary on it are both worth watching.

I heard a new wrinkle this morning. Apparently, a lot of the people in the fishing industry do business in cash and don’t report the cash as income on their tax returns. Their tax evasion is now coming back to bite them in the butt in terms of receiving any of the $20 billion handout. They don’t have accurate returns that reflect the money they now say they’ve lost because of this disaster. While I have so much sympathy for them all (my mother was a Cajun Fruge from Elton, La. and part of this community), 35% of my income is withheld every paycheck for FICA, SS, etc., and my sympathy dropped upon hearing the report. Who wouldn’t love to keep 100% of their salary? As Americans we should ALL be paying our taxes. (I know, I’m aware of how much the government wastes, but that’s another story.)
