I love grabbing a good bargain at a charity auction. Especially those that offer culinary travel packages. A loyal Disher just tipped me off to an upcoming event with a bitchin’ auction–IDEA Foundation’s “Puttin’ On The Mitz.” Proceeds from the gala on Friday, March 26 at the Colleyville Center, will help fund a medical container of supplies for the main hospital in Sierra Leone. I’m betting my money on the trip to Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. See ya there. Deets below.

Sponsors Shipment of Medical Equipment to Sierra Leone
The Puttin’ on the Mitz Gala will be held Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Colleyville Center in Colleyville, Texas. The goal of the event is to raise $50,000 to sock and ship a forty-foot container of medical equipment and supplies valued at over $500,000 to Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The Puttin’ on the Mitz gala and auction celebrates our love of cuisine and entertainment by showcasing professional chefs and performers as they dramatically present each scrumptious course. Choreographed musical numbers will coordinate with the theme of each dish. This will be an event to remember; the foodie experience of a lifetime!
The evening will feature 5 distinct food course starting with appetizers presented by strolling entertainers amidst displays of awesome silent auction items ranging from dining certificates at leading metroplex restaurants, local artisan handcrafted jewelry, Dallas Summer Musical Tickets, and custom created culinary baskets of foodie goodies. The next course will be served in the great hall and will culminate with a flaming presentation of a surprise dessert course and Live auction. Live auction items include Dallas Cowboy package and signed America’s team poster (1978) Fantasy local golf package and Le Cordon Bleu Paris Trip!
Puttin’ on the Mitz will be a great evening to support a great cause. The IDEA Foundation helps address the staggering need for health and education programs is Sierra Leone. This small, West African nation is rebuilding after a decade-long civil war. IDEA’s multi-pronged, long-term approach helps address problems at their roots. Clean water, nursing scholarships, literacy and vocational training, and libraries and school books are just a few of the ways IDEA empowers people and strengthens communities in Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone has the highest child and maternal mortality rates in the world: one in four children die before their fifth birthday; and one in ten women die from complications of pregnancy or childbirth. This container of hope will literally be a lifesaver.
