What I am Eating Now: Pancakes in Dallas

The alternative restaurant critics diet.Usually I avoid eating fattening foods when I am not reviewing a restaurant. However, I have to tell you I let my guard down about three weeks ago and ordered a hot stack of pancakes and since then I have been eating them every two to three days. I can not stop. I love the Mecca’s cakes. Currently I am in Colorado and I have eaten pancakes every morning. My stomach is swollen up like a poisoned dog. Let’s talk pancakes!! Screw Pinkberry, I’m moving on. Breakfast is the new dinner. Tell me where to go. (Down, Kirk.)

Nancy, you should go to the U.K. Today is Pancake Day.

  • Lion’s Den

Norma’s or Bubbas Cooks for Biscuits and Gravy. Breakfast of Champions

I’m not much of a pancake girl (eggs are more my thing) but Garden Cafe’s sweet potato pancakes are fantastic.

  • Twinwillow

    Good one, Kirk.

I love the breakfasts at Original House of Pancakes on (east bound) Lemmon.

  • Ferny

My opinion, and I know this is way too obvious, but for me there is nothing better in this world than IHOP’s Harvest Grain and Nut pancakes with its regular syrup served hot.

This advise comes with a warning – they’re EXTREMELY addicting – eat at your own risk.

I find myself coming up with reasons why I need to eat breakfast for lunch or breakfast for dinner all so I can have those darn pancakes. It’s embarrasing, but I can’t help myself.

I don’t really eat pancakes. Too much gluten. BUT, every once in a while I CRAVE Angela’s (Inwood & Lovers), banana nut pancakes.

Perhaps if we added maple syrup to the Pinkberry topping bar? We’d hate to lose you Nancy!

Blueberry & Ricotta Pancakes from Smoke in Oak Cliff. They’re seriously unbelievable. But get ready to look like a full blown pregnant woman if you decide to eat them every weekend as they’re topped with fresh cream and vanilla poached apricots.

I can just SMELL the pancakes at the AllGood Cafe …
order them with blueberries or strawberries if in season.

Cracker barrel has great buttermilk pancakes, especially when they come out with crispy edges.

  • Smithsionian

The Old West Cafe in Denton, pancakes are made from scratch and larger than your head!

  • kris

John’s cafe, THE BEST!! I have tried most of the other places mentioned, and never really drooled over pancakes, but John’s definitely makes the best Ive ever had…

  • I agree with @Twinwillow, the Original Pancake House has the BEST pancakes ever. The pecan pancakes are my favorite. They also have great bacon.

  • The pancakes at Smoke are kinda good. Or, make your own German pancakes – easy peasy. Too many places use mix and they taste like it.

  • Twinwillow

Many years ago when IHOP resided in the current home of Chip’s on Lovers Lane, We’d go there often. I loved their German pancakes. they were almost like eggy, thick, crepes. Loved em!
