From the copy and paste press release department:

DALLAS (Jan. 14, 2010) – Student chefs in regional high school culinary arts programs are preparing in their culinary arts program kitchens right now for the Dallas Regional First Annual FS Prep/ ProStart Student Competition hosted by the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association. The event will take place on Saturday, January 23 at Le Cordon Bleu Dallas. This exciting culinary showdown is a preliminary to the Texas FS Prep/ProStart State Student Competition being held March 6, 2010, where winners will go on to the 2010 National ProStart Invitational finals.
The road to Nationals for North Texas culinary arts students begins with the January 2010 GDRA sponsored-Dallas Regional First Annual FS Prep/ ProStart Student Competition hosted at Le Cordon Bleu Dallas.

The top three culinary teams from regional competitions move on to the state competition. Regional competitions are also being held in Austin and Houston.

Of the top nine teams from across the state, one winning team will represent Texas at the 2010 National Prostart Invitational April 28 to May 2 in Overland Park, Kansas.

This is the first time Texas will compete in the competition due to Texas Restaurant Association’s recent implementation of the ProStart program as part of the FS Prep curriculum.

High Schools participating in the competition are: Advanced Technology Complex High School (Denton ISD); Ben Barber Career Tech Academy (Mansfield ISD); Corsicana High School (Corsicana ISD); Duncanville High School (Duncanville ISD); Fossil Ridge High School (Keller ISD); Frisco Career Technical Education Center (Frisco ISD); Longview High School (Longview ISD); Newman Smith High School (Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD); Plano East High School (Plano ISD); Royse City High School (Royce City ISD); Technical Education Center (Hurst – Euless – Bedford ISD); and Wylie High School (Wylie ISD).

And the National Restaurant Association has recruited the support of the Food Network’s Guy Fieri to showcase the accomplishments of American culinary students at the high school level. Fieri hosted a special highlighting the students of the 2009 National ProStart competition this past December. The show, called Top of the Class, features ProStart students and Guy Fieri, popular Food Network host of three shows – Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Guy’s Big Bite and Ultimate Recipe Showdown.
