Haven’t been to Scardello cheese yet? Huh. No wonder we’re not friends. Didn’t you see they got a Best of Big D award? Seriously people, the cheese classes here are totally fun, informative, and inexpensive. Luckily, the Cheese 101 Class (the inspiration for Scardello’s BoBD nom), is happening August 20, and they’ve got several other events coming up as well, like happy hours and the Festival of Cheese. Jump for the list.

WHAT: Unwind Scardello Happy Hour
WHEN: Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Unwind. What better way to end a long day? Now from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, all wine by the
glass is $6 and comes with a bowl of nibbles–nuts, dried fruit or olives. Whether you are relaxing with
friends or going through the day’s ins and outs with co-workers, Unwind gets you in the right frame of
mind. Of course, if you need to bring work with you, we now offer free Wi-Fi!

Wine Tasting Saturday
Every Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Join owner Rich Rogers for a weekly wine tasting. Of course, the wines will be paired with cheese and
reservations are not needed. As always it’s FREE! If you can’t make it this Saturday, we will be at it
again next week. Check the web site for each week’s specific wines. It’s summertime, so bring on the
whites!

Festival of Cheese
Saturday, August 8, 2009 in Austin, Texas
The American Cheese Society is hosting this year’s annual conference and competition in Austin. There is
no telling when this spectacular event will make it’s way back to Texas, and Scardello wants to share it
with you! On Saturday, August 8, Rich and the group will meet at Brazos Valley Cheese, just north of
Waco, for a guided tour by cheesemaker Marc Kiel, then head into Austin and meet for a private wine
tasting before the Festival from 5:30 to 9 p.m. for a cheese overload! Festival admission is $75 for the
public and $60 for members. Scardello can purchase your tickets at the member price! Please call
214.219.1300 for reservations. Guests are responsible for transportation and lodging.

Nothin’ But Cheddar
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Cheddar. What is it? How is it made? What are good beverage and food pairings? Get answers to all of
these vexing questions and taste the results!

Cheese 101
Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Join cheesemonger Rich Rogers as you nibble your way through the different cheese types. Experience
comparative tastings of cheese and out-of-the-ordinary items that will help you focus on the distinct flavors
of each cheese type. Rich will cover the basics, including how cheese is made and answer questions
about cheese pairing fundamentals. Of course, there will be soothing libations provided in the relaxing
atmosphere of the shop!

Cheese from Vermont–Wine from Somewhere Else
Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Vermont has such depth and range when it comes to great hand-made cheese. Explore this bountiful
cheese producing area. Not known for exceptional wine, we will find some good vino from elsewhere to
pair with fantastic Vermont cheeses!

End of Summer Wine Sale
Friday, August 28–Sunday, August 30, 2009
Mark your calendar! For three days only we will be blowing through the wine on the shelves. Every
bottle of wine will be 20% off! We will have a number of wines to taste Saturday the 29th from 2-5 p.m.,
all at the discounted price. We also will have some great specials on other items in the shop. So say
goodbye to summer in style and stop in to grab a bottle or two while supplies last!
