Clif Family’s Climber Wine

Climber WhiteThe Climber White and Climber Red from Clif Family Winery are both approachable, easy drinking wines suitable for every day.  Blends of some of California’s favorite varietals, Clif Family are also the makers of the Clif Bar and Luna Bar.  They started the winery in 2004 with a hope to utilize sustainable and organic grapes whenever possible.

The white is predominantly Sauvignon Blanc, with Riesling, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Muscat, and a total production of only 3,800 cases.  The aromas are filled with strong citrus, predominantly grapefruit, lemon, and melon.  Delightfully, the palate is filled with subtle pear, apple and peach flavors.  It is crisp, light and great for our  Texas summer days, with an enjoyable, lingering finish.

The Climber Red is a blend of almost equal amounts of Zinfandel, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Petite Sirah.  Aromas of cherry, blackberry, cocoa and spice fill this straightforward, balanced red aged for 18 months in a mix of both new and old oak.  Juicy black cherry, berry and plum flavors predominate with subtle espresso and sweet spice undertones.   A great wine to pair with anything from hearty beef dishes to creamy cheese plates.

Both wines are from grapes sourced throughout Northern and Central California, and maintain a commitment to making high quality, low production, affordable wine.  The white is available now, the red will be available this Fall.
