Preston/Midway Hollow Chinese Food Beat: Howard Wang’s China Grill To Invade Frisco

|

Lots of news out of the ‘Hollow Hood. Yesterday, Nancy reported that Chef Wok finally closed. I have to say I feel somewhat guilty. The Chef Wok folks were extremely nice and they made good food (though the menu was a little limited), but they were stuck between the legend of Royal China and the fast, tasty franchised Pei Wei. Just got squeezed out.

Anyhoo, comes word today that Howard Wang’s China Grill – the official delivery restaurant of Midway Hollow and thus much of the SideDish braintrust (Nancy, JC, yours truly) – is opening a second location in Frisco. That’s the Frisco Market Center to be exact. Attention, Frisco: Howard Wang’s can be the best Chinese food in the area or it can be really average. The frustrating thing to me is the inconsistency of the place. I’ve had some truly delicious meals there, but I’ve also had Hot and Sour soup that tasted like it had been fetched from the dishwasher and Mongolian Beef that was as dry as the Gobi Desert.

Now, if you are one of those people who just loves, loves, loves reading press releases, well, you are in luck. The full text is after the jump:

FRISCO, TEXAS – April 23, 2009 – Howard Wang’s China Grill, a Dallas-based contemporary Asian restaurant, has chosen Frisco Market Center for their second Metroplex location. Frisco Market Center, a Hermansen Land Development project is located at the geographical center of Frisco at the northwest corner of Main Street (FM 720) and the Dallas North Tollway.  A total of 88 acres will create a master planned development for retail, restaurant, high-density multi-family, lodging and entertainment like no other in North Texas.  Frisco Market Center is carefully crafted with quality design and intricate architecture inspired by the early turn of the century printers row warehouse district in Chicago, pedestrian promenades, water features, ornamental landscaping and active green space creating a unique urban experience for Frisco residents and visitors.  The Frisco Market Center Promenade includes 66,000 square feet of exciting restaurants, retail and office spaces which will open in Fall 2009.

Wang’s first signature namesake restaurant, Howard Wang’s China Grill, opened at Northwest Highway and Midway Road in the neighborhood of Preston Hollow in Dallas in 2005. Rave reviews have followed the stylish and high-energy restaurant from The Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, Texas Monthly and Zagat.

The Frisco Market Center location of Howard Wang’s China Grill will be similar in contemporary design to the Dallas location and will be distinguished by a stunning, state-of-the-art exhibit kitchen, full service bar with plasma TV’s and patio dining.

“Frisco Market Center welcomes a Dallas staple like Howard Wang’s China Grill to share its flavor and success with Frisco,” states Kirk Hermansen of Hermansen Land Development and owner of Frisco Market Center.  “Howard Wang’s China Grill brings quality Asian cuisine and a contemporary restaurant concept to Frisco.”

Howard Wang’s China Grill will join Frisco Market Center’s new, state-of-the-art Main Event Entertainment, Courtyard by Marriott, IHOP and several other national brands to be announced.

“We chose Frisco Market Center for the friendly family atmosphere and high traffic generated by the surrounding sports and shopping venues,” states Howard Wang.  “Our neighborhood concept complements Frisco’s affluent demographics and we look forward to becoming a Frisco tradition,” continues Wang.

Howard Wang’s China Grill is open daily for lunch, dinner, take-out, delivery and catering. The extensive, artfully-crafted menu incorporates the freshest and finest ingredients to create traditional sweet and sour, spicy and flavorful Chinese dishes that include a variety of sizzling noodle bowls, signature fresh seafood selections, fresh soups and salads and entrees that come in generous lunch and dinner portions.

Howard Wang’s China Grill will break ground in late spring 2009.
