AJ’s Chicken & Waffles Restaurant to the Rescue

Just yesterday, a Disher had a hankering for C&W. In the comments section, June Naylor of Fort Worth, alerted us to AJ’s. This morning comes official word from “the brainchild of husband and wife team, Antonio Johnson and Shereese Slate-Johnson:  a press release which claims “New Soul Food Restaurant Offers a Place Where Food Tastes Like it Should.” Thanks, June Bug. DALLAS (March 12, 2009) – If you are looking for a some good tasting food that stirs the soul and tastes like it should, mosey over to AJ’s Chicken & Waffles, a new soul and fast food restaurant that recently premiered in Fort Worth.

“AJ’s Chicken and Waffles is a place where you can come enjoy great tasting food at a very reasonable price,” said Antonio Johnson, co-owner of AJ’s Chicken and Waffles. “We are proud to be able to offer a place where the community can come out and enjoy a great meal even during these difficult economic times.”

The restaurant’s warm and welcoming ambience paired with the smell of homemade cooking prepared from scratch daily by Fort Worth- native, Chef Gaynor Smith, creates vivid memories of entering your grand mama’s kitchen.  Among the homemade signature items are scrumptious fried chicken, city waffles that are prepared with a special cinnamon and country waffles that are specially prepared with banana nuts. Additionally, side items that are creatively named after family members of the husband and wife pair  include Tereese’s greens, Judy’s country cream corn , LaDonna’s smothered potatoes, Brooklyn’s broccoli casserole, Vesta’s yams, Mac o reese,  Bev’s green beans & potatoes, Biggest Gainer potato salad and Hester’s pinto beans.

The restaurant also offers tantalizing desserts that will make you want to “slap your mama.” They include Lady Bug banana pudding, Loretta’s sweet potato and pecan pies, Blondines cakes and homemade peach cobbler.  Also, the tasty sweet tea prepared with a “secret ingredient” is certain to quench more than just a thirst. Additionally, guests dining inside the restaurant can view the many autographed pictures of celebrities like Dorinda Clark Cole and Fred Hammond who have enjoyed the AJ’s experience.
