Disher Review #4: York Street

By Sarah Eveans |

Good morning lovely Dishers and Dishettes. I hope everyone had a wonderful and satisfying night of eating last night (I definitely did. More on that later.) Here’s the first review of the morning: York Street. Jump for it.

We got a late cancellation today to dine at York Street, so we arrived
for a 6.00pm reservation at 5.50, and we were seated promptly and
given a very varied and wonderful menu.

“Would you like to take advantage of the wine pairings that Chef has
put together?” we were asked, ” Yes please, we replied”.

So, for an extra $20 per, we were on our way.

Starters

My wife started with Burgundy Beef Tartar, paired with a local
Cabernet from Times 10 Cellars, and I started with a wonderful Pecos
Melon Salad, with Paula Lambert’s wonderful Feta, fennel and sumac
vinaigrette, paired with Boulder Bank Sauvignon Blanc. Verdict – Two
huge thumbs up!!

Mains

I had the Berkshire pork scalloppini, w/green bean&walnut -sherry
vinaigrette. The wine, Skouras St.George, from Nemea Greece – Both
stunning – a home run!!

My wife ate the Casco Bay Cod, with saffron-Courico broth, paired with
Tamar Ridge Pinot Noir from Tasmania. Again, a fantastic combination
of food and wine.

Dessert/Sweets

My wife – Banana Bread pudding, with caramel anglaise, with Moscato,as
the wine – so good, that I was not even allowed to sample!!!

Me – Classic Bread and Chocolate – my word, this dessert will set you
free! Who can resist dark chocolate, sandwiched in white bread and the
cooked like a grilled cheese!!!!
Oh, almost forgot – that was paired with a very fine California
Muscat, from Quady Elysium.

With not feeling of being rushed, we were done and out the door by 7.03pm

A great dinner, wonderful wines and fantastic wait-staff.

Well done to all at York Street – You can see why this place got a
James Beard award!
