Mini-Review: La Cubanita (Breakfast)

2289964557_d3119d9a2d_o.jpg Ever since Todd had lunch at La Cubanita, I’ve been trying to make it there for breakfast. Finally happened this weekend, and I’m glad it did. It’s a cool spot, too. A little small, but we didn’t have any trouble being seated. Kept wanting to steal design ideas for our own place…. Read more after the jump.

Started with a Café Cubano, which is essentially sweetened espresso. It was a bit pricey at $2.95 for a small shot, but it was delicious, and generously topped with crema. They use Illy coffee, which is always a welcome sight. My lady friend got a Coconut Mojito, which sounded to me like it’d be overly sweet. It wasn’t. Had a great flavor (probably due to the fresh mint I kept seeing them bring out of the back) and you only tasted a hint of coconut after each sip. Bravo.

I got the Rancheros Cubanos (pictured in front) after a co-worker bragged about eating this the week before. Looks simple, but the taste wasn’t. The eggs are on top of a sweet arepa. The sweet plantains were the best I’ve had in town. We shared a side of Yucca fries (on left) that came with a citrus dipping sauce. She got the Breakfast Tacos. Excellent Chorizo.

Will be back for more—maybe even at 2am, since they serve breakfast all the way ’till close (at 3am!) Viva La Cubanita!
