Into The Weekend: The Dallas Museum of Art’s 110th Birthday Celebration And Some Foodie Adventures

Between shoots for the spring issue of D Moms (yay!), deadlines, and school activities, this week just sort of flew by. I blinked, and it was Friday. But I’m not complaining. There’s the promise of beautiful weather, and, in between the last phase of our big closet clean-out in the girls’ rooms (I’m finally going to tackle that ginormous bin of hand me downs that’s been taunting me for months), there’s plenty of adventure to be had… Here are a few possibilities for your planning pleasure.

Dallas Museum of Art Late Night (Birthday Edition)
First up, the Dallas Museum of Art celebrates it’s 110th (!) birthday at their Late Night celebration tonight from 6 p.m. – Midnight. The evening’s agenda includes a performance by Brave Combo, creativity challenges, activities for the kiddos, and other goodness. Throw on a sweater, grab dinner in Klyde Warren park and then head over to the museum.

If you can’t make it tonight (or if, like me, you can’t get enough of the place), then hit the DMA again on Monday while the kids are out of school for the all-day celebration of their return to free general admission and launch of DMA Friends & Partners. From 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. there will be activities like an artist personality quiz, puzzle stations, a roving art cart, and story time as well as performances in the galleries, tours, and more.

Raising Foodies
If one of your new year’s family goals was to move your kids beyond mac and cheese, then the weekend is also a perfect time to embark on a few foodie adventures with the littles… You could, say, hit an ethnic grocery store such as H-Mart in Carrollton for Korean treats like red bean ice pops and Japanese mochi ice cream. Or how about grabbing some Jimmy’s sandwiches and taking them next door to the patio at Spiceman’s FM 1410 for an impromptu picnic? I’m thinking either would be fun for the whole crew.

H-Mart
2625 Old Denton Rd., Carrollton. 972-323-9700.
Open daily, 8 –11 a.m.

Jimmy’s: 4901 Bryan St. 214-823-6180.
Open Mon.–Sat., 9 a.m.–7:30 p.m.

Spiceman’s FM 1410: 1410 Fitzhugh Ave. 214-954-7974.
Open Mon.–Sat., 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Happy weekend!
