Roll Call: Education Stories of Note 6.16.14

Why New Jersey should sue to get rid of teacher seniority laws

1. In the wake of the Vergara decision, the editorial board of the Newark Star-Ledger calls for a lawsuit to tackle similar teacher seniority laws in New Jersey.

2. Meanwhile, in the Land of Status Quo, the NEA president blasts reformers and says something like “children children evil billionaires children America [Eagle cry].”

3. Make no mistake: I have a big problem with the teachers unions blindly embracing the status quo. I do not pretend for one minute, though, that I could ever be a high school teacher. This is a great diary of the typical day in a big-city urban high school. I would be fired by 8:30 a.m.
