Executive Perspectives: Fred Perpall

The Beck Group CEO shares strategies for keeping feelings of anxiety and isolation at bay.
By |

In 2013, Fred Perpall took the helm of The Beck Group, a Dallas architecture and construction stalwart that has been around since 1912. He quickly became actively involved in the community through leadership roles at the Dallas Regional Chamber and other organizations. Perpall currently serves as chairman of the Dallas Citizens Council.

Have you found silver linings in these difficult times?

“One thing that brings me gratitude is just how authentic our company values are. As a leader, you hope and pray that the decisions you make are the right ones. During this time of uncertainty—when there is no clear path—living our values reminds me that we’re staying true to who we are in life and business.”

How are you maintaining your company culture?

“In any other situation, you can run the risk of over-communicating, but during a pandemic like this, something that forces you not to have the privilege of seeing your people every day, you check-in. At Beck, we IM, email, and connect on video conference calls daily and weekly. It’s health maintenance and prevents those creeping feelings of isolation and anxiety.”

What have you learned that may change your policies or strategies for the future?

“Facing a public health pandemic teaches you that there is no such thing as being over-prepared.”
