D CEO has added to its editorial team with the hiring of Bianca Montes. She will serve as senior editor and head up commercial real estate coverage for the publication, which is the business title of D Magazine Partners.

Montes joins from another D division, People Newspapers, where she was managing editor for Park Cities People and Preston Hollow People. She focused on a variety of issues for the hyper-local newspapers and shored up its digital operations, doubling online engagement. She won a national journalism award for an education story she wrote and helped the group earn “Best in Class” honors.

Before People Newspapers, Montes worked for three years as a crime reporter at the Victoria Advocate, where she earned several state and national awards for investigative reporting, including the 2016 Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas Spirit of FOIA award. She also covered the city government beat for the Amarillo Globe News.

“Bianca is a seasoned journalist who’s committed to breaking news and going beyond the who-what-when-where to bring readers the ‘why’ of a story,” said Christine Perez, editor of D CEO. “She has a natural curiosity and is very driven—the ideal journalist to take our commercial real estate coverage to a new level.”

Montes will focus on breaking news reports and online coverage and will edit D CEO’s weekly commercial real estate e-newsletter. She’ll also drive social engagement and write industry columns and other stories for the print edition of D CEO and its Real Estate Annual.

Montes’ hiring is the final piece of a five-person effort to cover the industry: Perez writes leadership stories and magazine features, Managing Editor Brandon J. Call covers retail real estate, Senior Editor Will Maddox covers healthcare real estate, and Editorial Projects Manager Amanda Salerno handles D CEO’s awards programs, including Power Brokers and the Commercial Real Estate Awards.

“It’s exciting to cover commercial real estate during such a vibrant market like Dallas-Fort Worth,” Montes said. “Our business and real estate communities impact the region in such a powerful way.”

Among other things, Montes is bringing back D CEO’s online weekly Deal Ticker and Personnel Moves reports. Send her your story tips at [email protected] and follow her on LinkedIn @biancamontes and Twitter @reporterbianca.
