NFL Hall of Famer and founding partner Emmitt Smith is parting ways with the real estate firm that carries his name. E Smith Realty Partners will now be known as ESRP, effective immediately.

The Dallas-based firm was formed in 2013 as a partnership between Smith, the Dallas Cowboys legend; Sharon Morrison; and Brant Landry. The name change will allow ESRP to focus on national growth, the firm contends.

“Given Sharon’s previous affiliation with Staubach Co. and her relationships in real estate, ESRP is constantly getting inquiries from people in other parts of the country who wish to open ESRP offices,” a spokesperson for ESRP said. “They’ll now have the freedom to pursue some of these opportunities.”

The spokesperson added that Smith’s ownership stake in E Smith Realty Partners had been “very small.”

The firm said it will keep its headquarters and more than 40 employees in Dallas at Tollway Plaza. Additionally, Morrison, Steve Jarvie, Susan Arledge, Karra Guess and the rest of the executive team will continue in their current roles. “By becoming independent from E Smith Legacy Holdings, ESRP will have much more freedom to focus on its user-focused service offerings and allow E Smith Legacy Holdings to focus on real estate development, construction, and other endeavors,” Morrison, the CEO, said in a statement.

Smith is chairman and CEO of E Smith Legacy Holdings, which in January announced a partnership with Leon Capital Group to take on real estate development projects in the south, southwest, and mid-Atlantic United States.

“Today’s announcement would not have been possible without contributions from Emmitt,” Susan Arledge, president at ESRP, said in a statement. “We wish him well in all of his future endeavors.”
