KDC Unveils Look of New State Farm Campus in Richardson

Representatives from State Farm and KDC were in Richardson yesterday to formally kick off construction of the insurance giant's new regional home. State Farm has leased 1.5 million square feet of space in a three-building campus that's part of a 186-acre, $1.5 billion mixed-use project KDC is developing off North Central Expressway and State Highway 190. KDC chief executive Steve Van Amburgh called it "the largest and most visionary development" in the company's history.

Representatives from State Farm and KDC were in Richardson yesterday to formally kick off construction of the insurance giant’s new regional home. State Farm has leased 1.5 million square feet of space in a three-building campus that’s part of a 186-acre, $1.5 billion mixed-use project KDC is developing off North Central Expressway and State Highway 190.

KDC chief executive Steve Van Amburgh called it “the largest and most visionary development” in the company’s history.

“Offering this kind of creative development to North Texans, adjacent to the DART light rail system, is what the work force of today is seeking and residents and visitors expect,” he said in a statement. “We plan to deliver everything from office to entertainment in a very inviting and pedestrian-friendly environment.”

State Farm’s three buildings will have 21 stories, 15 stories, and 13 stories, built atop five-level parking garages. Combined, the facilities will house up to 8,000 employees.

The North Texas hub will provide claims, service, and sales support to State Farm customers. It’s slated for occupancy in 2015.
Adjacent to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Bush Turnpike Station on DART’s Red Line, the transit-oriented development will sprawl across both the east and west sides of Plano Road.

Along with State Farm’s office campus, the first phase will include about 1,000 multifamily units, a 150-room hotel, a health clinic and fitness facility, more than 75,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, and a specialty grocery-anchored center.

When all is said and done, the project is expected to contain 5 million square feet of office space, 300,000 square feet of retail space, about 4,000 multifamily units, and two hotels.

Cassidy Turley’s Randy Cooper and Craig Wilson represented State Farm in its office deal, which was named the Best Office Project in D CEO’s 2013 Commercial Real Estate Awards. Austin Commercial is the general contractor and Corgan Architects is both the shell building and interiors architect.
