I’ve been fortunate to build my professional career in the dynamic Dallas-Fort Worth commercial real estate market. Newcomers to our industry and region frequently ask for advice about how they can break into the market and grow their careers. It’s important to attain the education and training necessary to understand our always evolving market, sell services to clients, and broker transactions, but we wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything without first developing beneficial contacts within the industry.

One of the best ways to establish those vital contacts is through membership in a professional organization. Our region affords us a number of wonderful professional organizations to join, including the North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors, of which I’ve been a member for 10 years.

As this year’s NTCAR president, I have the honor of representing a terrific organization with a diverse membership base. The organization was formed in 1993 to promote business opportunities between its members. NTCAR offers exceptional education experiences, quality events and programs, industry resources, and member recognition. Some upcoming opportunities include:

• Dallas and Fort Worth Urban Retail Development (April 18)

• DFW Bus Tours (including the Great Southwest Industrial Tour on April 19 and Las Colinas Office Tour on May 17)

• Income Property Analysis Course (April 19)

• Hall of Fame (May 2)

• NTCAR Commercial Broker Classic Golf Tournament (June 3)

• Commercial Real Estate Expo (Sept. 5)

NTCAR offers a number of member benefits, such as its Young Professionals Forum, retail networking and educational events, economic forum, and annual awards programs, including the prestigious Stemmons Service Award and Young Citizen Award. It also provides professional resources, including ZipForms and the North Texas Commercial Data Exchange.

Developing and maintaining strategic contacts is one of the best ways to establish yourself in our industry. NTCAR is just one of several prominent trade associations in North Texas that offers its members opportunities to cultivate productive relationships. So find an organization, get involved in its activities, and before you realize it, you will start to form a network that will serve you well throughout your career.
