1. The DMN says Bertha Whatley (no relation, but you should listen anyway) is the pick for DISD Place 6. To which I add, no kidding. Whatley has had to overcome the notion that she is the "North Dallas candidate," because she's gotten money from Educate Dallas. It's a silly reason to attack someone, but it's all Joyce Foreman has. Whatley has experience, is independent, and cares only about kids. Normally, I hope for the craziest candidate to win, because they're more fun to write about. But listen to the words you are reading: Joyce Foreman would, hands-down, no question, end of discussion, be the worst trustee this city has ever seen. The damage she would do could not be undone. This time, go with the boring, competent candidate, Place 6. We're counting on you. 2. Is a college education worth it? For those of us continuing to pour every dime we have into our daughter's education, it's an important question. (Stop hounding me, Kappa Alpha Theta, you'll get your gd $281 when I'm good and ready to send it!) RealClearEducation, an essential site if you want to understand national education issues, says yes, of course, duh. 3. I know I'm already breaking my rule and going outside of Dallas County, but you should know that the great Bud Kennedy (@BudKennedy on your Twitter dial) spotted this note on a new Keller ISD board trustee's Facebook page"Do you realize because SO FEW voters took the time and responsibility to VOTE in the municipal elections - YOU NOW HAVE A 'MUSLIM' on the City Council!!! What A SHAME!!!!" I mean ... is Day 1 too early to say I give up?
