Darrell Auterson is resigning as president of the McKinney Economic Development Corp. a year and a half after taking the position.
The city said that Auterson is leaving the department due to “family health issues.” His last day is Tuesday, Jan. 16. The EDC has named Abby Liu, executive vice president, the interim president.
Auterson has served the EDC since July 2016. He came to McKinney with 35 years of experience in economic development after serving as president and CEO of the York County Economic Alliance in Pennsylvania and the York County Economic Development Corp. Auterson’s first job in economic development was as an economic development planner with the West Central Indiana Economic Development District Inc.
In his time with the MEDC, Auterson aided in the agreement with KDC to develop a mixed-use development at a 90-acre site near the Sam Rayburn Tollway and U.S. Highway 75. This week, McKinney is also celebrating the groundbreaking of a 150,000-square-foot, six-story corporate headquarters for Independent Bank, which will serve as the city’s tallest building.
The news comes about two months after Jim Gandy announced his plans to retire as president of the Frisco Economic Development Corp. Gandy served Frisco EDC for more than 21 years.
