FIT, The Dirty Shirts, and Smokey Mirror

January 6, 7:45 p.m. | The Kessler

The Dallas-based band FIT might look familiar because its members all hail from local bands like Sealion, The Birds of Night, Drug Animal, and Different Strokes. They promise “dark, edgy rock with lush arrangements and harmonious buildups.” They’re part of a three-bill night that includes The Dirty Shirts and Smokey Mirror. Get tickets here.

Eric Tessmer

January 6, 8 p.m. | The Granada Theater

When he’s not doing cool things like covering Depeche Mode’s “Policy of Truth” with Heart’s Nancy Wilson, Austin-based musician Eric Tessmer plays the kind of blues rock that made another Texan pretty famous, Stevie Ray Vaughan. His warmup act this time around is San Antonio’s Chris Duarte. Get tickets here.

Air Supply

January 6, 8 p.m. | Arlington Music Hall, Arlington

Australian soft rockers Air Supply will bring all the mellow to Arlington Friday night. All of it. If you’re looking for mellow, a surfeit of it will be at Arlington Music Hall between 8 and 10 p.m. Expect to hear all the hits, including “All Out of Love,” “Every Woman in the World,” and “Even the Nights Are Better.” Get tickets here.

The Josh Abbott Band

January 6 and 7, 10 p.m. | Billy Bob’s Texas, Fort Worth

The Josh Abbott Band will bring its Red Dirt Country to the Billy Bob’s Texas stage for two nights of honky tonking. The band, which originated in Lubbock while the members were Texas Tech students, last released an album in 2020, with The Highway Kind. Get tickets here and here.

The Molly Ringwalds

January 7, 7 p.m. | House of Blues

If you’re feeling nostalgic, Sheffield, England’s own The Molly Ringwalds will take the stage at the House of Blues. Expect, of course, plenty of well-known and B-side songs from the band’s extensive catalog of 80s covers from the likes of the Beastie Boys, Prince, and more. Get tickets here.

Paul Varghese

January 7, 7 p.m. | The Echo Lounge and Music Hall

Fresh off the release of his hour-long YouTube comedy special, “As I Was Saying,” Dallas native (and UNT grad) Paul Varghese will have a homestand outing this weekend at the Echo Lounge. The standup comedian first gained national attention when he competed on the Last Comic Standing 2 in 2004, but has since toured and performed nationally on a consistent basis.  Get tickets here.
