Art Basel, the largest contemporary art fair in North America, has returned to in-person events and programming for Miami Arts Week. Last year, Art Basel hosted a digital fair, because of the health concerns around COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the internationally renowned event brings over 250 art galleries from across the world to the Miami Beach Convention Center this week.
ChateaûCîroc
Dallas artist Madelyn Sneed-Grays and Fort Worth’s Lenworth “Joonbug” McIntosh will present works at chateauCiroc and ArtX’s exhibition. The exhibit, curated by Los Angeles based cultural strategist AJ Girard, displays works from 11 artists of color. “These artists help to reimagine ourselves as strong, fierce, and creative,” says Girard on the exhibit’s website. “Their art is full of stories that pull collective memory.” The two-day exhibit opens to public on December 2 and closes with a celebrity afterparty DJ’d by streetwear icon Heron Preston. Rock The Bells: Yacht The Basel
Dallas singer-songwriter Kaash Paige will perform at Yacht The Basel, an in-person activation hosted by Cheetos and Rock The Bells, LL Cool J’s e-commerce and hip-hop content brand. Paige will be joined by legendary DJ and music producer Just Blaze, DJ Millie, DJ Stevo, DJ C-Stylez, and DJ Nyla Simone, who round out the night’s musical entertainment. The activation includes “The Art of the Cheetle,” a Cheetos-inspired art gallery, with a debut piece from LeftyOutThere, a renowned street artist who previously worked with McDonalds, Nike, and other brands. Paradise
DJ Sober and Jessi Pereira, the duo of Dallas cultural curators, will bring Oak Cliff’s hottest monthly dance party to Soho Beach House in Miami’s Art Deco district. This is the duo’s second takeover of the members-only venue. For non-members, Paradise is the only opportunity to enter the celebrity nightlife hotspot. After Soho Beach House, gather your avatars and NFTs and join Paradise at the launch of FLUF Haus, an immersive metaverse experience, which features performances by Midnight Magic and Boyz Noize. Keep an Eye Out
You can find other locals in Miami, too. Dallas-based visual artist Jammie Holmes will have works on display at Marianne Boesky Gallery’s booth, B10 in the Miami Convention Center. Erin Cluely Gallery will present works at Untitled Art Fair on Ocean Beach and 12th Street in Miami. The gallery’s booth is A33. Dallas Army of Artists, a local art collective who turned boarded-up storefronts into works of art following protests after the murder of George Floyd, will have a mural on display at Art Basel. The collective’s mural is part of Mana Public Arts’ traveling exhibition.
Dallas-based artist Evita Tezeno will have collage paintings on display at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles booth at the Untitled Art Fair. The gallery’s booth is 9.02.
