Hello again to the as-of-yet unnamed weekly music column at FrontRow! So far, I’ve received one submission for a potential name. Thank you to the anonymous reader, but we need more suggestions people. I know you’re reading. I can see the stats. This column is for us.

Whether you’re a first time reader or day one fan, this column “exists to highlight artists in Dallas-Fort Worth who are often overlooked and under-appreciated by mainstream media. If local media doesn’t support local stars, who will?”

We operate in a community with local, independent music platforms, such as alreadyRADIO, THE HONEY, and any individual, blog, and/or platform in North Texas that gives a shit. Sorry to my mom who will eventually read this, but you know the daughter you raised.

Before we list the last two weeks of music in review, I would like to add a disclaimer. If we missed your release this week, remember we highlight new music every Friday. Send your music for consideration to my inbox. Don’t send your music to my inbox on Instagram! Thee hot girl editor will delete your unwanted DMs (Unless you’re cute. Actually not.)

Black Ice, An Album Listening Experience

Bored Magazine described Black Ice, the forthcoming collaboration album between Coach Tev, Blake Cris, and JO8s, as “the embellishment of the individualistic styles from each artist and how well these styles are intertwined to create a polished, cohesive project for their fans to wrap their ears around.” The album, set to be released on July 1st, has the potential to be on a “Best Of” list. Maybe ours? For a first listen, purchase a ticket to this weekend’s album listening party. The attire is semi-formal and starts at 6 p.m.

Cameron McCloud Finishes The #KeepIt100 Challenge

One hundred days ago, Cure For Paranoia’s Cameron McCloud challenged himself to release an original verse each day. Check the #KeepIt100 challenge hashtag to watch his evolution over the past three months. “Shed It” is his finale. McCloud is also featured on the Truth To Power compilation album, which charted on Billboard this week.

LUCKY VII Releases “Where Did Everyone Go?”

Earlier this year, Lucky VII collaborated with Devy $tonez on “Can I.” The release signaled a more professional shift in the rapper, who has since spent the last months working on an album that displays a dedication to his desired longevity.

Coming Home by Devy $tonez and Cush With a C

Devy $tonez and Cush With a C resurrect the lost art of a collaboration. In recent years, collabs have more often served as an opportunity to capitalize on an emerging artist or rehash clout from an existing song. In this case, the duo hearken back to the origins of the hip-hop collaboration, producing a genuine match between two great wordsmiths. Mainstream artists would do themselves as a favor to listen to the duo here, who share equal footing and lyrical prose.
