Where to Celebrate Halloween 2020 in Dallas

A distance-conscious list of haunted houses, costume contests, scary movies, and more to get you in the Halloween spirit.

Legacy Hall is having a full week of Halloween festivities, kicking off with Adult Disney Villain Trivia on Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. The games will be held in the outdoor Box Garden, and it costs $30 per team (up to six players) to play. Players will get $5 off beer pitchers and buckets, and there are prizes for the winners. Register here

Thursday, October 28 brings a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in the Box Garden, starting with a costume catwalk at 10 p.m. The event is free and open to those 21 and up, but registration is required to attend. 

The celebrations continue on Friday with Pop Punk Nite featuring live music by Van Full of Nuns. Expect covers of your favorite songs by Green Day, Blink-182, Sum 41, and others. Tickets start at $5. 

Legacy Hall concludes the Halloween extravaganza on Saturday, October 31 with a big, ‘80s-theme party. There will be an ‘80s party band, themed cocktails, and a costume contest with three grand prizes. The party goes from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., and there’s an afterparty at the third floor High Bar afterwards. Tickets to the event are $10. 

Rooftop Cinema Club, the new drive-in theater in Uptown, has a full lineup of ghastly films leading up Halloween. There are screenings of classic thrillers like Friday the 13th, Scream, Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Halloween each night. See the schedule and purchase tickets here

Texas Theatre is celebrating Halloween a little bit early with back-to-back screenings of Mandy on October 30 at its Sunset Ave. drive-in. The bizarre 2018 horror flick stars Nicolas Cage at his weirdest. Shows are at 8:15 and 11 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include a “cheddar goblin” grilled cheese. 

Theatre Three offers two virtual Halloween shows this year, It Came From Theatre Three, which includes several creepy stories from local playwrights, and The Bippy Bobby Boo 2020 Call-In Special, a live-streamed variety show. Both shows will be accessible online for safe viewing at home. Purchase tickets here

Local food and lifestyle blogger The Rose Table will be brewing a spooky treat in her first virtual cooking class on Friday. She will give a lesson on how to make her haunting “Cauldron Queso” just in time for Halloween. Access to the class, which will be streamed on Facebook at 6 p.m., is $15.

Reunion Tower hosts Haunted Tall Tales, an evening of scary Dallas storytelling, each Thursday-Sunday through Halloween. The tales will be told from atop the observation deck, where guests can take in views of the skyline. The event starts each evening at 6 p.m. Purchase tickets here

Arts Mission Oak Cliff is offering a distanced haunted house experience in its historic halls each night from October 29-31. The event is titled REQUIEM and is part haunted house, part performance art. There will also be an outdoor “spookeasy” in the garden. Guests are required to buy a time-specific ticket and complete a health questionnaire upon arrival for safety purposes. Find tickets here

Bowl & Barrel is holding an adults-only costume contest on Halloween starting at 8 p.m. Reservations are encouraged. 

Ida Claire is hosting a Mask-querade Halloween Soiree on October 31 from 8 p.m.-midnight. The restaurant will have a DJ on the patio, tarot card readings at the airstream, a costume contest, and a three-course pairing menu (the regular menu will also be available). Walk-ins are welcome, but beware–space is limited. 

The Rustic has a Hip Hop Halloween party with DJ Bradford on Halloween at 9:30 p.m. The event is free with RSVP.

Mutts Canine Cantina has lots of tricks in store for its annual Howl-O-Ween party on October 31 at 1 p.m. The pup with the best costume will be crowned king or queen of the dog park. It’s free to attend with membership

Dogs are also welcome at Truck Yard’s annual Halloween Bash, which kicks off with a canine costume contest (with cash prizes) at 2 p.m. The human costume contest ($500 first place prize) is at 6 p.m., and there will also be live music and drink specials throughout the day.
