Do you have a clarinet in your closet? A violin that’s out of tune? Has it been too long since you said hello to your cello? (Yikes, sorry for that one.) The Dallas Symphony Orchestra wants you to dust off your old instruments and join a community jam session at Betty Marcus Park (next to the Meyerson) this Friday, May 31 at 6 p.m. It’s the first time that the DSO has held an event of this kind. DSO’s Teen Council is hosting the jam session ahead of its annual end-of-season concert at the Meyerson Symphony Center.
Now in its 10th year, the DSO Teen Council is a group of musically inclined teens who plan events and concerts aimed at their peers, act as ambassadors for the DSO and classical music to their peers, and advise DSO artistic leadership on what’s important to Dallas youth.
This season, they’ve planned a performance of selections from Symphonie fantastique & Carmen conducted by Ruth Reinhardt, featuring the DSO, the Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition winner, and the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.
The pre-concert jam session is open to everybody who plays or has played an instrument regardless of skill level. You just have to bring your instrument and show up at the park to join in on the fun. It’s free, but you can register yourself and your instrument here. It starts at 6 p.m. and will last for about an hour. The concert will follow at 7:30 p.m.
