Kaaboo Texas | May 10–12 | AT&T Stadium

The Texas debut of this California-born festival is like our ex-boyfriend’s 1995 mixtape come to life. The random, nostalgic lineup includes Lauryn Hill, Kid Rock, Alanis Morissette, Sting, Garbage, Old 97’s, Joan Jett and the Black- hearts, and the Violent Femmes from the last century; plus Ludacris, The Killers, The Avett Brothers, and Little Big Town from this one. If that’s not funny enough for you, Dennis Miller, Demetri Martin, Brad Garrett, and others will do stand-up sets at the festival’s Humor Me comedy club. Other themed areas include Indulgences, with spa services and IV nutrient therapy, and Palate, which promises “small-batch specialties” and craft libations. There’s also a Vegas-style pool club called Bask in there somewhere for VIPs. Because why not?

JMBLYA | May 3, noon | Fair Park

JMBLYA marks the unofficial arrival of summer in Dallas with one big, sweaty festival. This year, Travis Scott headlines the bonanza, along with Lil Wayne, Kevin Gates, Gunna, and Sheck Wes. With City Girls, Blueface, and Bhad Bhabie among the supporting acts, it’s a hot ticket.

Off the Rails | May 4 & 5 | Toyota Stadium

Off the Rails Country Music Fest is coming back to Frisco the first weekend of May. The party kicks off Saturday with Luke Bryan, Jake Owen, Aaron Watson, Craig Morgan, Ashley McBryde, Abby Anderson, and Harper Grace. Sunday brings Sam Hunt, Luke Combs, Eli Young Band, Lauren Alaina, Morgan Evans, and others.

Sheila Hicks | May 11–August 18 | Nasher Sculpture Center

American artist Sheila Hicks works primarily in fiber and textiles, creating vibrant installations that seem to have grown from the very environments they occupy. In the Nasher garden, a site-specific piece weaves through the walking paths and relates back to soft sculptures in the lower gallery.

AT&T Byron Nelson | May 9–12 | Trinity Forest Golf Club

Local pro Jordan Spieth returns to the course and former Cowboy Tony Romo gets a sponsor’s exemption at this year’s PGA Tour tournament, which benefits the Momentous Institute.

A Conversation With Martha Stewart | May 29, 7:30 p.m. | Winspear Opera House

She’s the Emmy Award-winning host of an iconic TV show, the author of 90 bestselling books, and also a felon. Nevertheless, she was here to guide us to a more beautiful and crafty life long before the days of Pinterest and lifestyle blogs.

Jorja Smith and Kali Uchis | May 11, 7:30 p.m. | Toyota Music Factory

Two of our favorite R&B singers of the moment are teaming up on tour this spring. Brit Jorja Smith and Colombian-raised Kali Uchis make a dreamy, sultry duo—just listen to their collab, “Tyrant,” on Uchis’ debut album.

Indie Beauty Expo Dallas | May 15, 5–9 p.m. | Sixty Five Hundred

Are you a beauty fiend? Do you take shelfies of your medicine cabinet and own more than one face roller? This is your mecca. The Indie Beauty Expo brings together emerging brands, especially those in the realm of green beauty.

Taste Addison | May 31–June 2 | Addison Circle Park

Food, wine, and music collide at Addison’s biggest event of the year. The budget-friendly festival highlights the suburb’s best restaurants and brings in national entertainment acts. This year’s headliners are Josh Abbott Band, Walker Hayes, Smash Mouth, Plain White T’s, All-American Rejects, and Spin Doctors.

Dior: From Paris to the World | May 19–Sept. 1 | Dallas Museum of Art

This retrospective of the house of Dior and its many notable creative directors, curated by the Denver Art Museum, includes more than 100 haute couture dresses, accessories, sketches, archival images, and runway videos.

The 1975 | May 2, 7 p.m. | The Pavilion at the Toyota Music Factory

This English pop-rock trio fronted by Matty Healy has been big across the pond for a while, but more recently their poetic lyrics and synth textures have captured an obsessive audience in the United States. The 1975 plans to release its fourth studio album, Notes on a Conditional Form, this month.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre Spring Celebration | May 17–19 | Wyly Theatre

The contemporary modern dance company closes its 42nd season with Spring Celebration, featuring a new multigenre work by choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie, an appearance by special guest Ballet Hispánico, and an amazing aerial duet choreographed by Jamal Story.

ZZ Top | May 17, 6:10 p.m. | Dos Equis Pavilion

Houston-born rock band ZZ Top is launching its 50th anniversary tour with three concerts in Texas featuring Bad Company and Cheap Trick. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have kept a consistent lineup— Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, Frank Beard—and epic facial hair since 1969.

Dallas Côtes du Coeur | May 4 | Omni Dallas Hotel

The Dallas Division of the American Heart Association has hosted this fine wine auction and celebrity chef dinner for 27 years. In that time, it’s raised a whopping $38 million and become the AHA’s largest fundraising gala in the nation.

Ariana Grande | May 21, 8 p.m. | American Airlines Center

The princess of pop is back after a long, eventful break from touring. But the Sweetener World Tour covers both Sweetener and Thank U, Next, so it’s worth the wait. Expect thigh-high boots and the world’s most important ponytail at this triumphant concert.

Elm Street Music & Tattoo Festival | May 17–19 | Deep Ellum

Since 2013, Elm Street Tattoo and Oliver Peck (artist and judge on Ink Master) have welcomed an array of world-class artists to Deep Ellum each year for this tattoo convention and music festival. This year, catch bands like Vandoliers, Lucero, and Sad Girl, and get ink by Scott Sylvia, Tommy Montoya, Angelo Miller, and more.

Dallas Opera Gala | May 11, 7 p.m. | Winspear Opera House

Three of “America’s Hottest Tenors”–Bryan Hymel, Michael Fabiano, and Matthew Polenzani– are under one roof for this special concert featuring arias and Broadway tunes conducted by Carlo Montanaro. A seated dinner and an after-party follow.

Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical | May 22–26 | Wyly Theatre

The nostalgia is real, and the soundtrack is popping. Your favorite ’90s drama about a devilish pair of step-siblings and an innocent new girl is back in musical form, infused with the hits of Britney Spears, Boyz II Men, ’NSync, Christina Aguilera, and REM.

Dave Matthews Band | May 18, 8 p.m. | Dos Equis Pavilion

The alternative rock group famous for “Crash Into Me” and other ’90s hits was recently snubbed by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in its first year of eligibility, but that hasn’t slowed the jam masters down. Fans know to expect a one-of-a-kind, improvised show with DMB rarities and cover gems.

Jim Gaffigan | May 17, 8 p.m. | The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory

When you’re the father of five, dad jokes come naturally. Grammy-nominated comedian, actor, writer, and two-time New York Times bestselling author Jim Gaffigan has embraced the unique humor that comes with parenthood for his Quality Time Tour.
