This is a call to action for all those vision seekers. Out in the wild expanse of west Texas a challenge has been set forth for those with a curious, artful eye for photography. The fine folks of Alpine, Texas are hosting their 8th Annual #AlpineTXPhoto Contest.
Judged this year by renowned West Texas photographer, Jennifer Boomer, the stakes are high, and the prizes are plenty. First place will take home $500 in cash. The photo submissions must be photographed in or around Alpine but may have been taken any time as long as they were taken by the person submitting.
What they are looking for is your personal response to the area in the form of a photo. Perhaps something about the area moves you and captures the essence of Alpine in your perspective. Pull out your best lenses and get moving. There is no shortage of opportunity when it comes to photographing Alpine. Pristine, vast and unique, the possibilities are great.
And in addition to the photo contest, they are teaming up with the Museum of the Big Bend for the Alpine Photo Weekend from June 15-17. The weekend opens with a reception Friday, June 15 for “FotoTexas II: People, Places & Culture”, an exhibit at the Museum of the Big Bend by the Texas Photographic Society. TPS photographers from the exhibit will be doing the talks and demos on Saturday. There will be demonstrations, talks and two photo hikes including a sunset walk out on Hancock Hill which overlooks the town with amazing views, and a sunrise photo walk in downtown Alpine. There will also be a social media photo contest with prizes for the winning entry. So in addition to being in an incredible destination of unmatched beauty and peacefulness, you could have the chance to take the best photo of your life and be rewarded for it. Get known and go west.
