Frequent podcast guest and legendary newscaster Dan Rather invites another transplanted North Texan on his Big Interview show this evening: Steve Miller. The show has released a couple of preview clips, and they tease plenty of Dallas-related anecdotes to come in the full interview.
In this one, Miller talks about how his hit “Space Cowboy” derives (sort of) from his time punching bullies at St. Marks. In the video below, Miller talks about how he hustled his first gigs when he was in middle school by cold-calling Dallas fraternity houses and country clubs.
“There weren’t any rock and roll bands [in Dallas],” Miller says. “It was 1956. I had the whole year booked in three weeks. . . . That band played every Friday and Saturday night for the next five years.”
