The Old 97’s County Fair filled Main Street Garden on Saturday with good vibes and great fun, as it brought back all the fire from its premiere last year—with some new and old faces taking the stage.
Dallas original Jonathan Tyler told stories of playing with ZZ Top and guitar theft. Up next, The Jayhawks, a country rock band that got its start in the ’80s, brought the house (or park) down.
After standing in the hot sun for a while, fair-goers could take a seat and chill out in the shade. Not just a concert, the event had kid-friendly areas for fair games and, of course, rides on the 40-foot Ferris wheel. Vendor tents lined the sides of the park selling band tees and all sorts of goodies, and food trucks and popsicles stands made for a nice cool-down in between sets.
Mavis Staples mixed it up with some soulful blues and the Old 97’s ended the day at their namesake fair. Dogs, bicyclists with puppies in baskets, and toddlers came out to enjoy the springtime weather. Next year, we hope to see you there.
